Jennifer Esken of Scranton - First Friday June

Jenny.jpeg

For Jennifer Esken of Scranton, photography is a serious hobby. Starting in 2010, she began taking nature walks and taking photos. In 2012 she started showing her work locally. She has participated in 8 "First Friday Scranton" events at different venues, her works were displayed at Wayne Bank in 2014 for an entire year. She won 1st place in the Pennsylvania State Parks and Forest Foundation’s "Take Five" contest in 2012 and most recently placed second in the Pennsylvania Colors of Nature contest, also sponsored by the Pennsylvania State Parks and Forest Foundation, in September 2017. In 2013, she joined her first photography club, NEPA Shutterbugs. Participating in workshops and outings is where she fine tuned her skills. This year (2017) she became a founding member of a much smaller photography club, Focus NEPA. She loves taking creative pictures and sharing them with the world.

Jennifer attended Marywood University where she received a BS Degree in Accounting; she graduated in 1999. She is currently employed by Allied Services Integrated Health System in their Corporate office.

First Friday Artist Ashley Kujat

Over with wanting to take things too seriously, I started creating to make people laugh and to avoid stuffy, uptight artwork. Working with vintage magazine and book illustration and photos is like stepping into a time machine. The essence of vintage imagery and modern thoughts makes for an amusing combo. Through collage, printmaking, painting, and a well placed pun, I like to experiment and make carefree artwork people could relate to.

Aureate

featuring art by Sam Kuchwara

This show features pieces including oil paintings, mixed media, and landscapes that combine both disciplines. All of the mixed media pieces include found objects which I use not only to give new purpose to what would go to waste, but because each object's colors, texture and shape contribute to the final features of the entire piece.
